Group Visits (Private & School Groups)

1. Reservations

We do not accept reservations for group visits. Groups may visit the museum during our regular opening hours.


2. Admission fees

Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall (fourth floor)

Please note that we no longer provide group fees as of 1 April 2020. Group visitors will need to purchase individually priced tickets to enter the exhibition hall.

University students 350 yen (please present valid student identification documents upon request)
  • Admission is free for visitors who hold disability passes, and up to one accompanying caretaker. Please show valid documentation or your Mirairo ID app screen for entry.
  • High school students, visitors under the age of 18, and visitors aged 70 and above can enter the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall for free. Please present valid personal identification documents indicating your date of birth (e.g. student ID, health insurance care, passport, driver’s license) when entering the exhibition space.
Special Exhibition Hall (third floor)

Group visit prices are available for selected Special Exhibitions. Please check each Special Exhibition page for more details on pricing and terms of use.
Admission to the Special Exhibition includes entry to the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall.

  • Admission is free for visitors who hold disability passes, and up to one accompanying caretaker. Please show valid documentation or your Mirairo ID app screen for entry.

3. Bus parking

We have parking spaces available for buses and minibuses on a first-come-first-served basis. We are unable to accommodate parking reservations. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to your visit.

  • All passengers on the bus should be, in principle, visitors to the museum.
  • We kindly request that groups intending to make use of our bus parking contact us in advance.
  • Entry to the parking area is free for buses that are only picking up or dropping off their passengers. (Exit within 30 minutes of entry.)
  • Parking is free for groups including persons with disabilities, provided they fulfil the following conditions:
    • Persons with disabilities account for over one-third of the group, and have the appropriate documentation on hand
    • A representative from their group shows their disability documentation when entering the parking space
  • Visitors who wish to use the bus parking space should enter the museum grounds via Fukuoka Prefectural Road No. 35.

Kyuhaku After Five (Fridays and Saturdays during Special Exhibition periods) operating hours

Entry: 08:30–19:30
Exit: Up till 21:00

We have a limited number of on-site bus parking spaces (up to 9 buses). In the event that parking is fully occupied, please make use of the parking spaces available around Dazaifu Tenmangū Shrine.

4. Rest spaces, eating, and drinking

Our museum grounds have outdoor benches, seats, pavilions, as well as food trucks and an upcoming restaurant space available for visitors to eat and drink in. Please refer to this locality map for more information on where these amenities are located.

We kindly request that all visitors bring their trash back with them as there are no garbage bins on our grounds.


5. School visits to the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall

We request that school groups visiting the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall on excursions or other related trips take note of the following points, and submit any necessary paperwork as outlined below:

1. Teachers who are leading groups of elementary, middle, or high school students to the museum for school-related activities should submit the application form below beforehand to the Administrative Office for free admission to the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall.
Once your paperwork has been received, your student group will be able to enter the exhibition hall without showing any personal identification documents.
*Please note that the application form is in Japanese only.

2. Teachers who wish to visit the museum in advance of their planned school visit to do a site recce can enter the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall for free.
On the day of your recce trip, please approach the ticketing counters to fill in a recce application form (下見申込書) and present your teaching license or any other relevant documentation.

Volunteer-led museum tours for school groups are available in Japanese. Please contact the Cultural Exchange Division at 092-929-3289 for more information on these tours and how to apply.
*Tours may be conducted in smaller groups and at specific time slots to minimize the spread of Covid-19. We seek your kind understanding with respect to this matter.

Application form for school tours

1. Application procedures
  • Please send your completed application form via fax to the Administrative Office at 092-918-2810 between 1 to 4 weeks before the date of your visit.

We request that tour leaders read our visitation guidelines (“Request to School Tour Guides”) before visiting the museum.

2. Documentation and pointers for the day itself
  • We will send you a copy of your application with our seal affixed once it has been processed. Please bring this document with you on the day itself, and show it to the ticketing staff at the entrance of the Cultural Exchange Exhibition Hall to gain entry.
  • Please ensure that all members of your group enter the exhibition hall together. Please be mindful of the time as you make your way through the exhibition space.
