Kyuhaku New Year Tour
Catch the Dragon!

What comes to mind when you think of a dragon? Do you see a long body covered in scales, topped by a head with horns and whiskers, or a fire-breathing beast spreading its wings?
The dragon is a mythical creature, familiar as one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Since antiquity, dragons have been portrayed in numerous statues, paintings, and designs.
While their depictions have varied by period and region, all dragons were seen as spirit beasts with mystical powers. They also served as protective deities or symbols of authority.
Kyushu National Museum, affectionately known as Kyuhaku, is open from 1 January 2024.
In honor of the Year of the Dragon, we will display works featuring dragon motifs.
Start your new year by looking for all the dragons you want to catch, right here at Kyuhaku!
