After training as a third-ranked zenza in Shunpūtei Poppo, she won
the Rookie of the Year Asakusa Performing Arts Award during her period as a
second-ranked futatsume in Shunpūtei Pikkari☆.
She has since been active in a wide variety of venues. Reaching the finals
of the NHK Newcomer Rakugo Awards 3 times, she has also worked on
NTV’s Shōten comedy show, as well as on radio and in film.
In March 2022, she was promoted to the long-awaited highest rank,

Hayashiya Tsuruko
She is eager to take on new challenges, from the comedies of classical
rakugo to human-interest stories and new pieces. Playing mistresses
and courtesans as the main characters of classical works like Shibahama,
Kowakare and Konya Takao, she has been featured on NHK General Channel’s
Witness! Nippon, NTV’s NEWSZERO, as well as in Bungei
Shunju magazine and other media.
In March of 2024, she became the first woman in the world of rakugo
to be selected for quick promotion to shin’uchi.
