Did you know? Every year, the sea of sakura around Kyushu National Museum (or Kyuhaku
for short)
blooms beautifully in spring during sakura season.
From yoga to performances, tea ceremonies and mochi-making workshops, there’s something
for
everyone to enjoy with the sakura blossoms here at Kyuhaku!

Sakura Yoga
Enjoy outdoor yoga with an unimpeded view of the sea of sakura outside Kyuhaku. Feel the breeze as you relax, surrounded by Mt. Hōman and the blossoming sakura.

Urayasu no Mai dance
This beautiful dance with ōgi fans is performed by shrine maidens from Dazaifu Tenmangū, which is just a stone’s throw from our museum.
Chizuken Hakata Koma Performance
Enjoy this performance put on by masters of Chikuzen Hakata Koma, a traditional performing art with spinning tops unique to Fukuoka. In line with our Feature Exhibition “The Cutting Edge of Beauty”, the performance will feature swords!

Sakura Tea Ceremony
This beginner-friendly tea ceremony is free from formalities, and open to everyone. During this tea ceremony, the focus will not be on whisking tea but instead on gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the hospitality of sadō.

Mochi-making Experience
Try your hand ay making mochi during this workshop!
As part of the workshop, participants will get to try shiratama zenzai, a delicious red bean
soup with mochi.
